The Piercing Standards Agency (PSA) helps clarify what good studio practice looks like — and what to do if something goes wrong. We don’t regulate studios, but we offer independent guidance to help you make informed choices and understand what you should (and shouldn’t) expect during the piercing process.
What We Do
-
Set Clear Expectations
Our Codes of Practice outline what responsible studios should do — from hygiene and aftercare to consent and communication. These aren’t legal rules, but they reflect consistent best practice. -
Offer Neutral Guidance
We don’t take sides. If you’ve had a problem, we aim to explain your options clearly and help you decide the best next step — whether that’s returning to your studio, contacting your council, or seeking medical advice. -
Explain the Industry
Not all studios work the same. We help explain the difference between legal requirements, best practice, and personal preference — so you’re not left guessing what’s acceptable or not. -
Help Resolve Complaints
You can read our complaints guide to understand what to do if you’re unhappy. We don’t intervene directly, but our resources can help you find the right path.
Your Rights and Choices
- Studios must follow local council regulations
- You have the right to clean, professional service
- Not all studios are part of formal organisations — and that’s OK
- Studios referencing PSA should follow our codes
